SoCal indie rockers benches have released “Naive,” a gritty, anthemic new single forecasting a major year for the rising band. Released alongside a shimmering VHS-inspired music video, the single shows the young group at peak performance, delivering a thundering wall of sound that carries the torch of the band’s ‘90s and aughts indie sleaze influences. This cut is the first taste of benches’ EP in progress, slated for a coordinated release with the band’s spring tour.

“Naive” oozes ugly realism, relishing in an uncomfortably jaded narrative perspective for a nuanced affect. Through deliberately shadowy lyrical windows into a story of love lost, the track inspires a pent-up feeling that spills out through its cathartic, booming chorus. On the offering, the band has penned that “The musical landscape attempts to place you in a world where every wrong turn takes the steering wheel, and doubt waves from every corner, eventually throwing you through the windshield in slow motion down into a sinkhole as life as you know it begins to collapse.” By the song’s conclusion, benches have thoroughly instilled a vivid sense of turmoil through an undeniably catchy melody.

Benches are currently on tour supporting iDKHOW, with 25 remaining appearances tracing a loop from the East Coast, to the Midwest and back home to San Diego. The band will embark on its own headlining tour on April 19, featuring a total 8 solo engagements and a set at Atlanta’s Shaky Knees Festival on May 5.
