Earlier this month, Marcus Rezak and Blues Traveler teamed up for a live performance of “Mulling it Over,” a song off the band’s 1990 debut set. The run-through occurred during their Nov. 8 concert at The Rialto Square Theatre in Joliet, Ill., and has since been shared on YouTube.

Building off the momentum of the release of his third studio album, Guitar Head, Rezak approaches the favored number with voracious guitar solos that complement harmonica work from Blues Traveler frontman John Popper. At length, the song stretches over 10 minutes, elongated from its initial four-minute studio presentation.

During the Nov. 8 performance of “Mulling it Over,” Rezak propels out of the second chorus and into a roomy call-and-response segment between himself and Popper, further solidifying a shared electric current running between players.

On the heels of the live show, Rezak also turned out Guitar Head, produced by Grammy-award winner Paul Nelson and features Ray Paczkowski (Trey Anastasio Band) on keyboards, Adrian Tramontano (Twiddle, Kung Fu) on drums, Chris DeAngelis (Kung Fu, The Machine) on bass, and Erik Lawrence (Little Feat) on saxophones.

The new collection of work showcases a bluesy slant to Rezak’s virtuosic guitar playing and improvisational agility while also acknowledging this hometown of Chicago, fittingly hailed as the “Home of the Blues.”

Rezak will continue to support the new album with an upcoming Florida run and additional 2024 Guitar Head tour dates to be announced soon. For a complete list of dates and to learn more, visit marcusrezak.com.
