Today, Nils Lofgren has shared a new music video for his song “Ain’t The Truth Enough,” a tune off the new album Mountains, which dropped on July 21, 2023, via Castle Track Road Records. On the track and in the visual equalizer, the longtime member of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band is joined by Ringo Starr, Cindy Mizelle and Kevin McCormick.

“Ain’t The Truth Enough” was written after the January 6, 2021, insurrection at the United States Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., and reckons with how misinformation and demagoguery can affect and shift family dynamics based on differing perspectives. “It’s about a fierce mother dealing with her husband who just got home from the Jan. 6 insurrection,” states Lofgren.

On the track, Lofgren sings introspective lyrics, supported by a fellow member of the E Street Band, backup singer Mizelle. The tune also features support from legendary Beatles backbeat Starr and a bassline courtesy of Kevin McCormick. “No bull, just the brutal truth,” offered the musician, referring to the composition. 

Mountains was recorded at Lofgren’s Scottsdale, Ariz., home with the help of his wife, Amy. The LP presents a 10-track collection with a lush mix of soulful rock-and-roll music with blue grit and gospel spark, which speak to the musician’s extensive experience spanning from early years as a founding member of Grin to time spent in Springsteen’s ensemble, performing in Crazy Horse and inevitably embarking on solo endeavors.
