Today, Lotus released a new collection of music, a poignant tribute titled, Live In Steel City. The live album showcases the band’s last performance featuring the late percussionist Chuck Morris, who tragically lost his life during a family vacation earlier this year.
The LP was recorded on Feb. 25, 2023, at Stage AE in Pittsburgh, capturing Lotus in a polished state and a creative peak as they locked into their jamming flow with Tim Palmieri on guitar. Morris and his son Charlie would disappear just two weeks after the concert after the pair went kayaking on a lake in Arkansas. The concert, held amid their dynamic winter tour, unknowingly marked the conclusion of an era for the band.
In an unexpected turn of events, Lotus’ subsequent performance became a benefit concert, serving as a heartfelt tribute to their departed bandmate and his son. The Live In Steel City album serves as a commemorative piece, honoring Morris’ contributions while commemorating his final performance with the band.
To commemorate the album’s release, Lotus has organized an exclusive listening event on Bandcamp, which took place Thursday, Aug. 6. The event saw an immersive journey through the full album, allowing listeners to relive the performance that marked both a culmination of Lotus’ musical prowess and an emotional farewell to a cherished member of the band.
Live In Steel City is streaming on various platforms and a limited quantity of the 4-LP Vinyl sets, are on sale here. Listen to the album in full via Bandcamp below.
