On Sunday, August 6, Portugal. The Man brought their current tour to the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. At the tail end of their main frame, the Portland, Ore.-troupe brought out It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Charlie Day to run through “Day Man,” a song that has been a part of the band’s repertoire since 2013, according to Setlist.FM, and featured in the 2008 season four finale of the long-running FX comedy.

In total, Portugal. The Man has played the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia tune over 120 times, initially adding it to their live catalog during a June 14, 2013 gig, at Bogart’s in Cincinnati, Ohio., and followed up the next night by reviving the same song during their Bonnaroo set. Previously this year, the group played “Day Man” during their July 29, 2023, stand at The Fillmore in Philadelphia–a more than fitting location for the cover.

The extra special sit-in during Sunday night’s stand came after the band had welcomed additional guests, such as Weird Al Yankovic, who showed up to assist on their recently dropped collaboration, “Who’s Gonna Stop Me,” in addition to Paul Williams and Jeff Bhasker, who joined in on “Time’s a Fantasy.” The latter was once a member of Lettuce and produced Portugal. The Man’s latest LP, Chris Black Changed My Life.

Following the aforementioned arrivals, Day took his spot on stage–his name lit up on the supersized screens: Featuring Charlie Day–and took the lyrical lead while the band supported instrumentally. Perhaps the best part was the radiating excitement from the pumped-up crowd as they sang along to the comedic-infused lines.
