Over the holiday break, Connecticut-based jamband Goose delivered two incredible nights of music at the Stone Pony Summer Stage in Asbury Park, N.J., delighting fans with Fourth of July celebrations. The shows featured a mix of beloved classics, impressive improvisations, and a festive atmosphere that perfectly captured the holiday spirit – including a debut of the Grateful Dead’s “U.S. Blues” on the fourth and vibrant explosions in the sky over the boardwalk the day before.
Fresh off their performances at The Peach Music Festival and Resonance Music & Arts Festival, Goose started the first evening of American-made jubilation on July 3, 2023, with a vibrant rendition of Van Morrison’s “Wild Night,” marking its first appearance since Oct. 6, 2022. The band continued to captivate the crowd with an eclectic setlist, including fan favorites like “Elizabeth,” “Indian River,” and “Everything Must Go.”
Notably, during the first set, “Indian River” featured a jam that playfully teased “Welcome To Delta,” and as they continued to pop off over improvisational jams in the second set, the sky was lit up with gunpowder as they moved from “Creatures” to “Arcadia.” The performance concluded with an encore featuring the timeless classic “Magic Carpet Ride” by Steppenwolf.
On the second night, held on July 4, 2023, Goose kept the energy soaring high as an eagle with a setlist showcasing their wings of versatility and prowess. The opening frame featured tracks such as “Atlas Dogs,” “Turbulence & The Night Rays,” and “Mr. Action,” and a special treat for the multitude of Grateful Dead enthusiasts by the sea as they debuted their rendition of “U.S. Blues.”
The second set appropriately opened with their debut of John Cafferty’s “Wild Summer Nights,” followed by the groovy “Thatch” featuring a playful tease of “Secret Agent Man” by Peter Anspach. Goose also treated the audience to an extended jam during “Into The Myst,” which seamlessly transitioned into a long-awaited rendition of “What’s Up” by 4 Non Blondes – which was heard during the sound check the night before. They then moved into a pristine performance of Arrow to bring the set to a close. As the night came to a close, the band took their time moving ever upwards and outwards with an encore performance of “Slow Ready.”
Both evenings saw the band in top form, celebrating the country with dynamic and engaging sets, leaving fans eagerly awaiting their next musical adventure.
