Keeping up with their 22-year tradition, Yo La Tengo announced their Hanukkah shows will go on as planned. As is tradition, the group–comprised of Georgia Hubley, Ira Kaplan and James McNew–will take on the Bowery Ballroom in New York City on Hanukkah this year from Dec. 7-14.

Since 2001, Yo La Tengo has held a series of concerts spanning the Eight Days of Lights, and since its inception, the celebration has found its home in the Bowery neighborhood of Manhattan. They landed at the intimate 575-capacity venue in 2017 following a five-year hiatus. Before their transplant, the event took place at Maxwell’s in Hoboken, N.J. Notably, they hosted a virtual show on the last night of Hanukkah in 2020 and have since returned to live shows.

The band took to social media to announce the highly anticipated concerts. In their post, the ensemble explained the event: “If you’ve celebrated the holiday with us before, you already know that we’ll duct tape the electric menorah to the bass amp, and every night Yo La Tengo will play a set (if history repeats itself, no song will be repeated during the run). There’ll be a comic and an opening band that will be unannounced until doors open each night. And if we can convince anyone else to join in, they’ll be there too. The proceeds will go to charity.”

Last year’s run welcomed Barrence Whitfield & the Savages, Marky Ramone, Lucy Dacus, Sun Ra Arkestra and more as musical guests. They were also joined by comedians David Cross, Carole Montgomery, Eugene Mirman, Brittany Carney, and others. The performers and comedians set to celebrate the holiday with Yo La Tengo are yet to be announced.

Tickets for all shows of the run are $50 and go on sale Friday, June 23 at 10 a.m. ET. Learn more and find tickets here.
