English rocker and former Oasis lead guitarist and songwriter Noel Gallagher has delivered his take on the Joy Division number “Love Will Tear Us Apart” via the BBC Radio 2 series known as Piano Room. Gallagher was joined by the BBC Concert Orchestra during the cover, who added grandiose instrumentation taking the 1980 cut to new heights.

“I would play this song, this version of it, at home down the years,” Gallagher said during the interview segment of the session. “When they asked me to do it, I was like, ‘How can I get away with that?’ Because it’s such an iconic [song] and, being from Manchester, well, this is going to be tricky. But now I’ve got my own studio [so], I went and did a little demo of it and was like, ‘You know what? I think I might be able to pull this off.’”

Gallagher’s appearance arrives the day before the release of his latest studio album, Council Skies, which was recorded with his High Flying Birds bandmates. The fresh batch of music includes three songs with former Smiths guitarist and longtime friend of Gallagher, Johnny Marr, such as lead single “Pretty Boy.”
