Last night, Dead & Company continued the Southern route of their final tour, stopping at PNC Music Pavilion in Charlotte, N.C., where they delivered two sets of music that pulled from across the Grateful Dead’s extensive song catalog. During the night, the band embraced the classics, working through beloved numbers which have long been a part of their live performances history.

The Tuesday night concert got underway with “Shakedown Street,” inciting an all-out dance party from the first note of the staple tune. That spark of jubilation stuck around as the band, comprised of Bobby Weir, Mickey Hart, Oteil Burbridge, John Mayer, Jeff Chimenti and Jay Lane, worked into an ensuing cover of Obray Ramsey’s “Cold Rain and Snow” before picking up “Loser” and “Dire Wolf.”

The initial set brought forth a lively rendition of “Loose Lucy” before Weir and Mayer traded lyrics on “The Wheel,” which merged into “Bertha.” Ultimately, the band closed the frame with “Let It Grow.” After a break from the stage, the musicians returned, kicking off the latter half of the evening with a favored pairing of “Help on the Way” with “Slipknot!”

The aforementioned number ran into the night’s rendition of “Franklin’s Tower.” Next, Burbridge shifted from a supporting role to the main focus with the arrival of “Fire on The Mountain.” In continuation of the second set, Weir took the reins with the night’s edition of “The Other One,” which was left unfinished in lieu of the second set staple “Drums” and “Space” sequence.

From the percussive transcendence helmed by Hart, the band floated back into “The Other One,” grasping what remained before shifting into a soulful take on “Black Peter.” Dead & Company capped their second set with fan favorite “Sugar Magnolia” before adding a “U.S. Blues” encore into the mix to close their time in the Tar Heel State.

After last night’s production, Dead & Company will waste no time returning to the stage. They are scheduled to play in Raleigh, N.C., on Thursday, June 1. The concert is sold out.
