After commencing their Austin, Texas run at the Moody Theater on Tuesday evening, Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros followed up last night, March 8, with two frames of music in the Lone Star State. The gig presented the addition of Joel Guzman, who sat in on accordion during second set takes on “Mexicali Blues,” “Me & Bobby McGee,” “Not Fade Away” as well as the encore, which consisted of the Bob Dylan-penned “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door.”

Weir and company commenced their first set with the Grateful Dead favorite “Bertha,” which ran over into the ensuing rendition of The Young Rascals’ “Good Lovin’.” To follow, the group of players returned to the Dead archive, plucking through the Wake of the Flood classic “Mississippi Half Step Toodeloo” followed by Dylan’s “Queen Jane Approximately.”

Continuing their initial frame, the ensemble landed on “West L.A. Fadeaway” prior to a run-through of the Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter-created “They Love Each Other.” For the set’s final song, they picked up the Roy Hamilton number, “Don’t Let Go,” a tune that frequented the Jerry Garcia Band canon.

After a break from the stage, the group returned for the second half of their performance along with the evening’s guest, Guzman, who assisted on a superlative “Mexicali Blues.” The accordion player took a solo on the next number, the Kris Kristofferson-written “Me & Bobby McGee,” before departing from the front of the room.

Following the first part of the sit-in, Weir led the band through “Playing in the Band,” which merged into “Uncle John’s Band” and “Supplication” before a reprise of the Workingman’s Dead classic, “Uncle John’s Band.” Next, “The Other One” arrived ahead of a soulful delivery of “Stella Blue.” For the final song of the second set, Guzman joined in on “Not Fade Away” in addition to the evening’s encore of “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door.”

Weir and company will pop over to Dallas, this evening, for a gig at the Majestic Theatre. To learn more and grab a ticket, follow this link
