On Feb. 17, Pink Talking Fish took the stage at The Vogel in Red Band, N.J. During their two-set performance, the musicians ran through choice numbers plucked from Pink Floyd, Talking Heads, and Phish’s favored archives. Then, a special moment arrived during the halfway point of the group’s last frame: the billed players brought out their guest, Phish lyricist Tom Marshall, who added vocals to “Run Like An Antelope.”

The Friday night gig got underway with a complete run-through of Pink Floyd’s 1973 triumph Dark Side of The Moon, in honor of the LP’s 50th anniversary. The group performed the album from start to finish, beginning with it’s opener, “Speak To Me.” The night’s initial song merged into “Breathe” and “On The Run” before the band caught their breath. “Time” came before “Great Gig in the Sky” and “Money.” Next, the ensemble worked through “Us and Them,” “Any Colour You Like,” and “Brain Damage” before capping the first half of the night on “Eclipse.”

After a set break, the band emerged on stage and cut into Phish’s “The Curtain,” paired with Talking Heads’ “Girlfriend is Better.” The second set continued to deliver memorable musical moments, like a take on Pink Floyd’s “Young Lust,” which came before “Nothing But Flowers.” The night’s highpoint came next, as New Jersey native and Phish lyricist Marshall was called up to assist with “Run Like An Antelope,” a song he helped pen beside The Dude of Life.

To follow the sit-in, Pink Talking Fish continued their second set with “Astronomy Domine,” paired with “Cities.” Next, they worked through “My Friend My Friend” combined with “2001” to end the evening’s final frame. Applause brought the band back for their encore, which kicked off on fan favorite “One In A Lifetime” before returning to Pink Floyd’s beloved archive with a reprise of the first set closer, “Eclipse.”

Pink Talking Fish will continue their run on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at the Midtown Ballroom in Bend, Ore., before jumping to the Rose City the next night. For more information, visit the band’s official website.
