On Thursday, Dec. 22, The Bitter End in the Greenwich Village of New York City will welcome the music of Jordan Mclean’s NY Afrobeat Scene’s Jam Session #1.
The performance at the storied venue will welcome house band Armo, a spirited musical collective that draws together members of Antibalas, past and present. For Thursday’s gathering, the group will be comprised of singer/keyboardist Amayo, percussionist/ vocalist Marcus Farrar, drummer Kevin Raczka, bassist Justin Kimmel guitarist/ keyboardist Nikhil P. Yerawadekar, Timothy James on guitar, Smoota on trombone and the aforementioned Mclean on trumpet – depending on proximity.
Collectively the members of the ensemble have performed thousands of concerts around the world on their own and as members of Antibalas and have worked with such luminaries as David Byrne, TV on The Radio, Sharan Jones & The Dapkings, and more, making an incredible night of music almost a certainty.
The event will likely be the first of many to celebrate the genre that involves the combination of West African musical styles (such as traditional Yoruba music and highlife) and American funk, jazz, and soul influences.
The performance will take place from 8 p.m. ET to 10 p.m. and is an all-ages event. Tickets are on sale now. Find tickets and learn more here.
