Leland Whitty of the all-encompassing BADBADNOTGOOD has announced his first-ever solo album in the contemporary jazz realm. The musician has shared the first single, “Awake,” off the seven-song LP, Anyhow. The artist’s latest music collection is slated to be released on Dec. 9 – via People’s Champ/ Innovative Leisure.

Anyhow comes after two jazz projects by Whitty with fellow BADBADNOTGOOD member Matthew A. Tavares, Visions and January 12th, both of which were released in 2020. The latest offering sees Whitty expanding his palate with orchestral strings, windy woodwinds and synthesizers.

On the LP, Whitty is joined by fellow BADBADNOTGOOD members Chester Hansen, Alex Sowinski and the Canadian band’s former keyboardist, the aforementioned Tavares, who adds complimentary instrumentation. The project also features Whitty’s older brother, Lowell, who handles the drum on most of the forthcoming tracks.

“Awake” is the first taste of the new album and serves as an ambient string-filled cinematic journey through Whitty’s latest inner pictures. It offers an instrumental walk down a fall-filled gusty path through acoustic guitar breaks and downward sliding violin pairs.
