Jan Ramsey, the founder, publisher and editor-in-chief at OffBeat Magazine, which focuses on popular music in Louisiana and New Orleans, has been diagnosed with a rare type of lung cancer. As a result, confidants have put together a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for Ramsey’s rising medical and living costs.

Ramsey began OffBeat nearly three decades ago “as an effort to improve and expand local music culture and business,” as stated on the publication’s official website. Since her career took flight in the early 1980s, Ramsey created a name for herself with her essays dubbed “Mojo Mouth” and has become a leading force in The Big Easy’s homegrown music scene.

To offset the tremendous costs of treatment, Ramsey’s supporters have put together a GoFundMe campaign, which will assist in the financial costs of medical treatment and the family’s living expenses during this time of difficulty. As stated in the official GoFundMe, “All funds raised will go to her medical and living expenses.”
