SeepeopleS, the anti-genre band hailing from Portland, Maine have announced their sixth studio album, Field Guide For Survival In This Dying World, which will be released on Oct. 7 on the frontman, Will Bradford’s label, RascalZRecordZ. The group has released the first single from the record, “Lots Of People,” along with a corresponding music video.

The track, as well as the entire record, showcases themes of paranoia and anxiety about the world’s future through experimental sounds and genre-bending instrumentation and production. The video for the single does so through animated paper cutouts of centuries-old photos, reminiscent of Monty Python, coinciding with the refrain of “lots of people,” in pitched-up vocals while the photos multiply.

Bradford began working on the project in 2017 and planned on releasing it in support of a 20th-anniversary tour when the COVID-19 pandemic struck, changing his plans and inspiring him to continue working on the album. The record includes collaborations from Will Holland of The Pixies and The New Pornographers, drummer Nikki Glaspie and Tim Reynolds of Dave Matthews Band, among others.

“One of the few good things about the pandemic was that it was really the first time, as musicians, that everyone had time off the road to reconnect with each other. I was so depressed at the time, having my friends come to the rescue and get me pumped about the record again was, creatively, exactly what I needed. Also, in some ways, the convenience of the world ending while we were already making an end-of-the-world album, certainly helped motivate us to follow through on finishing this record, and ultimately, this statement,” Bradford said in a press release.
