Yesterday, Aerosmith canceled the first run of shows set for their Deuces Are Wild Las Vegas residency at the Dolby Live at Park MGM after frontman Steven Tyler checked himself into a drug treatment program following a relapse.

Tyler’s physical injuries have been well documented; from a motorcycle crash in 1980, up until 2009 when Aerosmith canceled their summer tour after Tyler broke his shoulder and had to have 20 stitched in the back of his head after he fell offstage during a show in Sturgis, S.D. –later that year, in December, it was reported Tyler entered a drug rehabilitation program.

“As many of you know, our beloved brother Steven has worked on his sobriety for many years,” the band wrote in a statement. “After foot surgery to prepare for the stage and the necessity of pain management during the process, he has recently relapsed and voluntarily entered a treatment program to concentrate on his health and recovery.”

The band are set to return to the stage on Sept. 4 in Bangor, Maine before they head to their old stomping grounds of Boston for a show at the historic Fenway Park on Sept. 8. Following those shows, Aerosmith is scheduled to return to Las Vegas on Sept. 14 for the second half of their Dueces Are Wild residency which will run through until Dec. 11.

“We are devastated that we have inconvenienced so many of you, especially our most loyal fans who often travel great distances to experience our shows,” the band concluded. “Thank you for your understanding and for your support for Steven during this time.”

Tickets for the shows purchased via Ticketmaster will be refunded and fans receive an email with details shortly, otherwise, the band has asked fans to contact their point of purchase for information on refunds.
