The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame fans’ ballot closed yesterday with Duran Duran, Eminem and Pat Benatar landing the top three spots. Over 5 million votes were cast by people around the world and Duran Duran a first-time nominee garnered 934,000 votes, 250,000 more than the Number Two slot winner, and two-time nominee Eminem.

Bentar landed the third-place slot with just 50,000 votes behind Eminem. The Number Four slot was taken by Eurythmics with over 440,000 votes – a significant drop from the top three. The Number Five spot was taken by country music icon Dolly Parton, who asked to bow out of the nomination stating she felt she had not “earned the right” but just this week stated if she won she’d “gracefully accept.” Outside the top five, were Judas Priest, Carly Simon, Lionel Richie and Devo.

Though Duran Duran dominated the fans’ ballot it does not ensure they’ll be inducted. “The top five artists, as selected by the public, will comprise a ‘fans’ ballot’ that will be tallied along with the other ballots to choose the 2022 inductees,” said the Rock Hall of the ballot.

The class of 2022 will be shared with the public in May and an induction ceremony will follow in the fall.
