Taper’s Choice made their New York City debut this past weekend. The indie jam group–featuring Dave Harrington (Darkside), Alex Bleeker (Real Estate), Chris Tomson (Vampire Weekend) and Zach Tenorio-Miller (Arc Iris)–performed an afternoon set at the Relix Studio on Saturday, which was streamed on the Relix Twitch Channel.

During the studio session, Yeasayer co-founder Anand Wilder offered a DJ set and Antibalas trumpeter Jordan McLean and saxophonist Stuart Bogie, a longtime member of Antibalas known for his work with Arcade Fire and Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, sat in on “Born to Burst” and “Darkness on the Edge of Midtown.”

On Sunday, the group played an early evening two-set show on the roof of Brooklyn, N.Y.’s Sultan Room. Bogie once again sat in on “Darkness on the Edge of Midtown” at the end of the group’s first set and New Masada drummer Kenny Wollesen–who has worked closely with Bill Frisell, John Zorn and Steven Bernstein–played on a second drum kit throughout the second set. During Taper’s Choice’s second set, Bogie returned for a version of “Born to Burst” that segued out of “Every Bubble.” Then, Geese singer/guitarist Cameron Winter made a surprise appearance for a cover of his band’s trending single, “Low Era,” which also boasted Bogie on saxophone.
Taper’s Choice will perform at Pasadena, CA’s Old Towne Pub on May 6.
