This weekend Australian icons The Wiggles welcomed Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker on stage to cover the lead single off Tame Impala’s 2012 LP Lonerism “Elephant.”

Concert goers at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia may have expected the song as the children’s music group did cover the track for Triple J’s Like A Version ahead of their 2022 album ReWiggled–which features one side of Australian artists covering Wiggles songs like the DZ Deathrays covering “Hot Potato” and the other featuring The Wiggles covering hit songs from Tame Impala’s “Elephant” to “Get on the Good Foot” by James Brown and Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”– but no one expected for the Lonerism producer, multi-instrumentalist and icon to show up and perform with them.

The performance featured Anthony Field (The Blue Wiggle), Tsehay Hawkins (The Yellow Wiggle), Lachy Gillespie (The Purple Wiggle), Simon Pryce (The Red Wiggle), Parker (Tame Impala) along with an inflatable elephant, a lizard with a bow, a police officer, an oversized dog in a car and a lineup of dancers all in Wiggle’s colors. Like the Triple J performance, which went on to top the 2021 poll of Triple J Hottest 100, the song featured an interpolation of The Wiggles’ “Fruit Salad Yummy Yummy!”

“When the opportunity presented itself to perform live with The Wiggles – how could I resist?” Parker joyful proclaimed in a statement. “That was one of the most enjoyable things I’ve done!” After the song, The Wiggles gifted his very own Wiggles guitar and outfit, Parker then stuck around to handle guitar on “Hot Potato.”

Tame Impala are set to return to the U.S. in May for Hangout Music Festival and the second leg of their North American tour. Find Tickets here.
