Railroad Earth swung through the Southwest over the weekend, performing at the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta, Ga. on Friday and The Caverns in Pelham, Tenn. on Saturday night.
On Friday, Fruition’s Mimi Naja, who was raised outside of Atlanta, Ga., and currently resides in Nashville, Tenn., opened the show and sat in for a few tunes.
The main set opened with “Cold Water,” followed by “Old Dangerfield” and “Only By The Light.” Next, the band performed the 2019 track “It’s So Good.” “Black Bear” segued into “The Forecast” and a 13-minute long “Grandfather Mountain” before ending the set with “Delta Queen Waltz.”
Set two picked up with two songs off the 2010 LP, Railroad Earth, “Black Elk Speaks” into “Spring-Heeled Jack,” followed by 2004’s “Storms.” During the latter part of the second set, Mimi Naja joined in on electric guitar and lead vocals for “Hard Livin’” and stuck around for an encore performance of “I am a Mess.”
The music continued on Saturday night when Railroad Earth performed at The Caverns. They opened the night with “Bird in a House” followed by a jam of “Dance Around Molly” into “Dandelion Wine.” The first set ended with a cover of Crazy Horse and Neil Young’s “Powderfinger.”
The second set began with a debut performance of “Blues Highway,” written by Todd Sheaffer. Next, the band performed “Farewell to Isinglass,” followed by“Captain Nowhere.” The set concluded with “Seven Story Mountain” off 2001’s The Black Bear Sessions and an encore performance “Peace on Earth.”
Next, Railroad Earth will perform at The Intersection in Grand Rapids, Mich., on Feb. 2. Tickets are still available and can be purchased here.
