On Wednesday, Gov’t Mule welcomed back longtime collaborator Ron Holloway at Island Exodus in Runaway, Jamaica. The saxophonist sat in for several tunes during the first and second set. 

On Wednesday, the first set opened with “Brother Bill (Last Clean Shirt),” off the band’s 2021 LP, Heavy Load Blues, followed by “Painted Silver Light” and continued with a cover of The Beatles, “She Said, She Said.” 

The first set continued with “Eternity’s Breath” jam into the Dead’s “St. Stephen,” During the latter part of the first set, Ron Holloway joined in for a fitting island cover of Bob Marley’s “Lively Up Yourself.” Holloway stuck around for “Unblow Your Horn” and “Mule.”

The second set picked up with “Beautifully Broken” off Gov’t Mule’s 2003 live album, The Deepest End, Live in Concert, followed by “Hiding Place.” Ron Holloway took the stage to join in on a cover of The Allman Brothers Band’s  “Kind of Bird.” Next, the band played “If You Need Me” and closed out set two with Tom Wait’s “Going Out West.” 

The band returned to the stage with Holloway for a “Blues Before Sunrise” encore from the band’s latest recording.
