Yesterday, The Main Squeeze shared a video of their take on John Lennon’s posthumous release “Jealous Guy.” The video features the quintet comprised of Reuben Gingrich (drums), Ben “Smiley” Silverstein (keyboard), Maximillian Newman (guitar), Rob “Skywalker” Walker (bass), Corey Frye (vocals) – they were joined by funk saxophonist Gracy Kelly.

Like their live take of “Dr. Funk,” the clip was shot in the sunroom of the group’s home in the hills of Los Angeles. “Jealous Guy” was recorded over 50 years ago and is one of Lennon’s most covered songs; The Main Squeeze and Kelly’s skillful and unique cover shows exactly why that remains true.

The Main Squeeze’s rendition showcases Frye’s sprawling vocals and Kelly’s cascading crescendos crashing upon one another, like an ocean spray. Silverstein and Newman add light with their melody as Walker and Gingrich’s rhythm section carries the sound upwards. The musicians truly use the cover as a vehicle to display their skill and musical chemistry.

The Main Squeeze are set to join Dead & Company in Mexico for Playing in the Sand festival on Jan 7-10 and 13-16. Learn more here.
