The String Cheese Incident closed out their Thanksgiving run with shows at Denver, Colo.’s Mission Ballroom on Friday and Saturday. Before they played “Round the Wheel” on Friday, the ensemble honored Jesse Aratow–a partner at Madison House, their first tour manager and a veteran agent–who passed away unexpectedly earlier this fall with a “group hoot.” The ensemble all wore shirts that read “Keep The Dream Alive” throughout the show in honor of Aratow, who worked with the ensemble for almost 25 years. They moved through the evening through high-energy jams with “Black Clouds”> “Dirk”> “I’m Your Boogie Man”> Dirk, “Hi Ho No Show” to close Friday’s first set.
Big Gigantic’s Dominic Lalli sat in for the band’s entire second set, including a diverse mix of covers and his track “Sky High.” The String Cheese Incident had not covered Fela Kuti’s “Zombie” since July 23, 2017, and had only performed Tupac’s “California Love,” one other time, during a Hulaween show on Oct. 26, 2019. They had also never performed Avicii’s “Wake Me Up” live before.
Saturday’s show was a “fan-voted setlist” and featured many bust-outs from the Colorado band. Including “Bigger Isn’t Better,” “Resume Man,” and “Ain’t Waistin’ Time No More,” all of which haven’t been played since 2017. They closed the set with “Sirens” and “Let’s Go Outside” and encored with “Restless Wind.”
