Last night, The Slip kicked off their tour at Higher Ground in South Burlington, Vt., marking their first tour in over ten years. The trio, which consists of guitarist Brad Barr, his brother Andrew Barr on percussion and bassist Marc Friedman, filled the evening with classic staples from their discography and covers.

The show started with “Landing” and “Get Me With Fuji,” the two songs that open The Slip’s 2002 album Angels Come On Time, properly raising the curtain on the band publically for the first time since 2011. They then played “Long Ways Back,” which was debuted in August at the band’s appearance at Joe Russo’s Almost Dead’s mini-festival at the LOCKN’ Farm in Arrington, Va.

The show went on with beloved tracks like “Even Rats,” “Sometimes True To Nothing,” “Motherwolf,” and old school sleeper hits like “Chasing Rabbits” and “Trane-ing.” They then played “Through The Iron Gate,” which led into “Life in Disguise.” Finally, they closed with “Original Blue Air”> “Paper Birds.”

The Slip encored with a cover of The Band’s seminal track “The Weight,” which featured a “Dogs On Bikes” reprise for the ending.

The Slip’s tour resumes tonight at the Fete Music Hall in Providence, R.I.
