Widespread Panic closed out their four-night run at the Riverside Theater in Milwaukee, Wis. In true “Never Miss A Sunday Show” fashion, the Georgia-born band traversed through covers, improvisational jams and blues heavy ballads through the night.
They opened the show with a three-track string, “Jam” > “Love Tractor” > “Riders on the Storm.” The rendition of “Riders on the Storm” marked the first time Widespread Panic have covered the classic song by The Doors in six years. They then played originals from “Blue Indian” and “Child Radio” to “Little Lilly.” Finally, they closed the set with a cover of Little Women’s “Chainsaw City” with Steve Lopez on percussion.
The second set kicked off with two covers, Neil Young’s “Walk On” and Bobby Rush’s “Bowlegged Woman.” They then played “Tie Your Shoes” > “Stop Go” The set went on for 85 minutes and culminated in a jam of “Fishwater” > “Drums” > the late great Dr. John’s “I Walk On Guilded Splinters” back > “Fishwater.” They closed the second set with “Postcard.”
For the encore, Widespread Panic broke out covers of Lou Reed’s “Vicious,” The Beatles, “The Ballad of John and Yoko,” and their very own “Tall Boy” to close.
Widespread Panic will be playing in New Orleans for their Halloween shows next.
