Trey Anastasio began the final weekend of his T.A.B. tour at NYC’s famed Radio City Music Hall on Oct. 2, performing with his improvised lineup, featuring no horns and Jon Fishman in the place of usual percussionist Russ Lawton.

Lawton revealed he was COVID positive on Sept. 28, just hours before Anastasio’s show in Columbus, Ohio. Trumpeter Jennifer Hartswick revealed her diagnosis on Sept. 25, leading the band to announce they would tour without horns for the remainder of their scheduled dates.

Set one at Radio City was highlighted by a “46 Days” opener, the band’s first “Tube” of this tour – led by new recruit Dezron Davis – and a nice pairing of “Cayman Review”> “Blaze On” to close.

Anastasio and company opened their second set with “Party Time” – not unlike their stop in Pittsburgh.

Afterwards came some of the evening’s most expansive jamming, as T.A.B. moved through a 9-minute “Ghost,” a 28-minute “Mr. Completely,” a brief “Shade” and an 11-minute “Twist.” (“Mr. Completely” was also one of the night’s biggest teases, weaving in and out of the band’s improv several times.)

It was the encore, however, which found the audience really leaning in. Anastasio opted to spend most of the 19-minute portion solo acoustic, serving up tunes like “When The Words Go Away,” “Theme From The Bottom” and “More.” Naturally he welcomed the band back once more for a final jam on “First Tube.”

Trey Anastasio Band’s tour ends tonight – Sunday, Oct. 3 – with one last show at Radio City Music Hall.
