As the Northeast tracked the onset of tropical storm Henri, Dead & Company tried their best to entertain a Philadelphia crowd at Citizen’s Band Park on Aug. 21.
And while the music played the band for over a dozen songs, Dead & Company eventually had to call the performance off due to weather.
The extended single set opened with “Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo” and continued on with “Alabama Getaway,” “Jack Straw” and a nice trio of “Franklin’s Tower,” “Estimated Prophet” and “Sugaree.”
It also wouldn’t be a Dead & Company show without a late-set “Drums/Space” which bled into “The Wheel” and a weather-appropriate “Morning Dew.”
The show ended with a rocking “One More Saturday Night” and an emotional “Brokedown Palace.”
“Philadelphia! We tried to put as much of our usual 2 set show into one long set to bring you as much music as possible before the weather got too dangerous to continue,” the band wrote afterwards. “We love you and thank you for helping us deliver a rainbow full of sound.”
Check out the full setlist below:

August 24, 2021 at 6:02 amThere was a time, not so long ago, when it rained, the band kept playing on. 1990-07-12.
The harder it rained, the harder they played.
Music Never Stopped. 2021 Pussies!

August 24, 2021 at 9:52 amYes, it’s true. I can remember seeing Sound Garden opening for Neil Young at Jones Beach in what can only be described as direct hit of a thunder storm. Lightening only added to the mood. I also recall M80s being hurled inside the Brendon Byrne for ACDC back in 198? I thought that was pretty dangerous but , oh my, how this world has changed.

August 23, 2021 at 10:28 amSound’s like a fine show and missing 3 songs ain’t no big deal. The only other time I’d possibly say a refund was in order or something like that was Camden a few years ago when they did take a long set break and the second set got called off due to weather after 2 1/2 songs. That was a bummer and they Def should have cut out the set break cause they easily had advance notice of the coming thunder and lightning but it is what it is and I’m glad y’all had a great time in Philly.

August 22, 2021 at 3:30 pmBarn burner of a show! The band started about 15 minutes early and cut out there 45 minute intermission. Best show on the tour so far! Alabama getaway, Jack Straw, Estimated, Sugaree, Terrapin, Other One & Morning Dew were all highlights! Quite a bit for one night! John was on fire! as was the whole band! Absolutely amazing!

August 22, 2021 at 8:59 pmAgreed Jimmy Row. We even got a rainbow as Jerry smiled down upon us. Terrapin-Other One was the high point for me. Loved the Franklin by itself, that was a first for me. I put this one up there with 6/20/16 and 6/1/18, both in Camden.

August 22, 2021 at 1:29 pmAs a member of the audience I’d say that refund never, ever even crossed my mind. Seen many Dead shows… this one was amazing… was thinking it was the best first set I’ve ever seen them play. Starting around 7:20 and going until about 10:30… without a set break isn’t something I’d even consider wanting a refund for… I did see a copy of the full setlist… as it was supposed to be… they dropped 3 songs… that is a bummer… but I appreciate their care for the audience…. in playing as they did. ( I was exhausted though usually count on a set break to recharge. )

August 22, 2021 at 3:30 pmexactly. I had this happen to me once with Furthur @ Fingers Lakes show (Canandaigua, (sp?) NY). Phish’s show also was truncated near Philly same night. It was a minor bummer, but yeah, we got in about 75% to 80% of the show. (2/3’s of second set was played). Bobby said: “if we don’t stop playing now, they are gonna pull the plug.” Refunds never crossed my mind, either, if completely cancelled/postponed, well that’s another thing.

August 22, 2021 at 3:43 pmActually another point on mine above: Obviously with fools and trolls on this site, “one can’t win.”
Our Furthur show that night @ Finger Lakes Amphitheatre DID have a regular and full set-break, so many complained of course, that they should have played through. Last night (And I believe once at Folsom Field in CO. lately), they did as well, they played through, to make it at least 3/4’s of a show. Then you have fools talk of refunds, and money-grubbing. As stated, same anonymous fools on a jam band site, who NEVER intend to see the band they so laugh at.

August 22, 2021 at 10:10 pmWhich 3 songs got dropped from the original setlist just out of curiosity? Was an incredible show regardless!

August 22, 2021 at 1:06 pmYou want a refund for your missed set break? Maybe you can just do a few whippets and go mill about in your back yard.
Looks like the band played a nice long set, and got everyone home safely before the storm arrived. Smart move.

August 22, 2021 at 3:25 pmPerfectly said Herbal, re: Summer Fool. He/she don’t come close to sniffing a show at a major ball-park, where the seats are a little more pricey. He should have stood next to his aluminum tool shed out the back yard last night, with steel-toe boots, on when the lightning and thunder blew in.

August 25, 2021 at 9:38 pmWell Said , I was there & it was one of the best shows I have ever seen. It may have been one set but it was packed & they played for 3 hours. Bathroom and concession line were the quickest ever. The consensus from everyone that went was it was the best show on the tour thus far/ till then.

August 23, 2021 at 6:49 pmThere are none to be found here! Sadly enough. I’d love to be gently put to sleep, by a lullaby-tempo, 45 minute china>rider. lol That’s all these guys seem to be able to do. Anything for a buck, right? Got to get it why the getting is good. There are officially licensed TOTL business atire, Limitied edition D&CO Nike’s, and everything else one could think of. I see ads for all this junk everyday. It’s starting to look like KISS, and how they will sell their name, to license anything someone will pay for. Can it BE any more obvious everything since FTW has been one big, last cash grab, while they managed to become a fad for the kiddos, now. None of them need the money. They should go enjoy all their money and everything they worked those 30 years to earn, and just enjoy being with family, ect. Rather than just playing lame shows, just to get richer, and die in some hotel room, away from everyone they love. They obviously can’t play well enough, at their age, to play the songs properly, which is perfectly expected, at their age. It has broken my heart, seeing what something so magical, has been turned into a business that only cares about maximizing profits, like any other corporation.

August 23, 2021 at 2:24 amI have seen the real Grateful Dead 28 times. The coolest thing was that the price of tickets for any seat in the venue was the same. My last show 10/14/94 was like twenty bucks. They have made more in two tours than the GD made in 4-5 years
