Primus kicked off their Rush-inspired “A Tribute To Kings” tour on Aug. 10 in Idaho, playing a set of Primus favorites, followed by the 1977 epic A Tribute To Kings in its entirety.

“Those Damned Blue-Collar Tweekers” opened the outing, and the band continued on with other originals like “Mr. Knowitall,” “Groundhog’s Day,” “Fisticuffs,” “Seas of Cheese,” “Frizzle Fry” and fan favorite “My Name Is Mud,” before ending with “Over the Electric Grapevine.”

Then came the Rush set, with the title track, “A Farewell to Kings,” giving way to “Xanadu” and the hit “Closer to the Heart.”

“Are you ready, Ler?” Claypool asked the guitarist before launching into the delicate intro to “Cinderella Man.”

Then, things got conceptual with the space-age “Madrigal,” and the closing “Cygnus X-1.”

The encore consisted of Primus cuts once again – namely “Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver” and “Southbound Pachyderm.”
