On July 22, Leftover Salmon rolled through Nashville’s 6th and Peabody and lived up to the city’s collaborative nature, offering fans a bluegrass-infused throwdown with over a half dozen guests.

Since the 2020 departure of keyboardist Erik Deutsch, the band has been enjoying their new five-piece format, but that didn’t stop them from enlisting Jay Starling to play keys, dobro, lap steel guitar for this entire Nashville outing.

Early in the set, Leftover Salmon showcased material from their new LP Brand New Good Old Days, including the titular “Brand New Good Old Days,” “Red Fox Run” and “Boogie Grass Band.”

From there, the sit-ins began: Levi Lowrey (of opening act Southern Rounds Live) added fiddle and vocals to “Better Way,” Nashville favorite Rob Snyder added guitar and vocals to “Lucky Man,” Willa Emmitt (daughter of LF co-founder Drew Emmitt) sang on “Waterfront,” and Channing Wilson (also of Southern Rounds) played guitar and sang on “7 Oceans.”

However, it was the stacked finale of “Deep Elem Blues” that made the show a certified hootenany – guests included Chris Davisson on guitar and Donny Davisson on vocals (both performed earlier as a support act under their Davisson Brothers Band banner) as well as additional guests Wyatt Durrett, Channing Wilson, Levi Lowrey, Anders Beck (of Greensky Bluegrass) and Willa Emmitt.
