HBO’s documentary on Woodstock ’99 titled Woodstock 99: Peace, Love, and Rage is now available to stream on HBO Max. It became available last night July 23, at 9 p.m. EST. The release marks the 22nd anniversary of the concert’s first day. The documentary comes from executive producer Bill Simmons.
The documentary covers how a festival with an attendance of approximately 400,000 people over four days devolved into chaos, violence and destruction, through interviews, in-person accounts, and hours of footage from the lamentable weekend. Woodstock 99: Peace, Love, and Rage is an exploration of circumstance, human behavior and an often overlooked era in American history.

July 30, 2021 at 6:19 pmDay in the Garden ’99, on Yasgur’s farm, in the same stage orientation as 1969, was excellent and I’m so glad I went. $19.69 for tickets. Only about 20,000 people there so very manageable. Parked our car at the top of the grass hill which in 1969 was filled with people! And most of the artists playing were there at the original in 1969. Got to see Johnny Winter, Rick Danko, Richie Havens, and Leslie West before they died. Got a nice picture of the plaque at the corner of Hurd Rd with the names of all the 1969 performers.

July 28, 2021 at 7:58 amI watched this documentary and must say, I was not too impressed. Lot of finger pointing, lot of new buzzwords being thrown around like toxic masculinity and white male rage. The bands themselves being blamed for actions of fans. In a time where everything is now offensive and racist it would have been interesting to see this movie made 10 years ago. I remember watching this live on pay per view, it was a mess indeed. Just not impressed with the get on the bus with our new age propaganda blame game.

July 24, 2021 at 12:56 pmWatched the first 1/2 hour thus far. Hysterical. Easy to make wild correlations and blame the times, MTV, President Clinton, the bands, etc with perfect 20-20 hindsight, rather than blame the participants out for a good time. Absolutely Hysterical!
