Goose played for a crowd of up to 5,000 people this weekend at Denver’s Sculpture Park, selling out their second night at the venue and offering a slew of heavy jams for the massive, outdoor crowd. This marked potentially the largest headlining gig of Goose’s career to date.
Highlights from night one – July 9 – included a “So Ready” opener as well as a set one “Yeti” (featuring the band’s beloved Coach on rainstick) and a 16-minute take on Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes.”
Night two – July 10 – took the band’s shenanigans even further as they welcomed manager Ben Baruch to play drums during the first half on “Butter Rum.” From there, Goose got deep in a “Your Ocean”> “Arcadia” jam as well as a set-closing “Seekers on the Ridge Pt. 1 “> “Seekers on the Ridge Pt. 2.”
Goose’s second night in Denver was also marked by an exploratory set two, opening with their “Bingo Tour Theme”/Coach costume contest, before sinking into a “Arrow”> “Creatures”> “Moby”> “State of the Art (A.E.I.O.U)” segment – the final song being their standout Jim James cover.
“Hot Tea” wrapped up the evening with a dance party, and keyboardist/guitarist Peter Anspach thanked the crew before the encore, as the band sunk into the Marvin Gaye-penned/The Band favorite “Don’t Do It.”
Looking ahead Goose will host their first-ever LOCKN’ weekend (aka FRED The Festival) from Aug. 20-22 in Virginia.
