Ahead of his final socially-distant show at Morris, Conn.’s South Farms, Warren Haynes has shared a 360-degree, virtual reality video of a performance of “Beautifully Broken,” featuring his Gov’t Mule bandmate Danny Louis. The video was shot privately at South Farms.
Haynes and Louis co-wrote the Gov’t Mule song, which appeared on their 2001 record The Deep End, Vol. 1. Prior to the performance, Haynes mentions that the first iteration song’s riff was written by Louis while he was playing guitar. Haynes then took Louis’ initial lick and modified it slightly to how we hear it today.
The video itself was shot by The VR Sessions, a production company specializing in virtual reality video. Viewers can watch the footage in their typical YouTube window, but they will be able to rotate the camera 360 degrees via a trackpad. The video can also be watched in an Oculus VR headset or in the YouTube VR app.
Haynes will return for his final show at South Farms on Sunday, Nov. 8, closing out the venue’s Twilight Concerts series. This show will take place in the afternoon, starting at 3 p.m. ET. Haynes took to Twitter on Nov. 3 to discuss the setlists of his past South Farms gigs.
“Anyone want to guess how many different songs we’ve played through the first 6 shows at South Farms? How about repeats?” he tweeted on Wednesday morning. After allowing an hour for fans to guess, Haynes returned with the answer: “Unofficially 104 different songs. And only repeat was ‘Don’t Know Where We’re Going But We’ll Get There’ which opened every show, because We Don’t and We Will.”
