Widespread Panic have announced the 20th installment of their archive multi-track series. The forthcoming two-set presentation grants fans and listeners alike audio access to the band’s performance from January 29, 1996, night three of three at Granton’s in Vail, Colo. The concert was part of the group’s esteemed Sit n’ Ski Tour, a 20-date trek where members and followers hit the slopes during the day and jammed by night. As a preview, a sample from the concert, “Radio Child,” has been released.
The impending archival release presents a rowdy, playful performance set during an intimate, easygoing, and acoustic-heavy chapter of the group’s tenure. As evident on the tracking list, the band’s pick of songs reflects the contents of their first four records, while also winking at their fifth studio endeavor by way of “Radio Child.” The aforementioned track also serves as the lead single from the impending live offering, fast movements that carve instrumental paths like riding the first chair and cutting through fresh powder.
The show was mixed and mastered by the band’s seminal producer and engineer, John Keane, from the original multi-track tapes. Archive #20 continues Widespread Panic’s live saga, an open invitation to step back in time and take part in the sonic spirit and fluency of the Peach State Band just days out from their 10th anniversary, having played their first concert on Feb. 6, 1986, at the Mad Hatter Ballroom in Athens, Ga.
The archival concert will be released on nugs.net and all major streaming platforms on Friday, May 1. The 2-CD format is available for order now, along with a commemorative show poster by Jason Clements [SOLD OUT].
