The Grateful Dead have announced the final installment of the 2020 set of Dave’s Picks archival releases. Dave’s Picks Vol. 36 will feature two shows performed at the Hartford Civic Center in Hartford, Ct. on March 26 and 27, 1987.
“Hard to believe but we’ve come upon the very last release in our 2020 Dave’s Picks Series,” Dead HQ wrote in a social media post announcing the release.
The shows featured on the release mark the Dead’s first performances on the East Coast since guitarist Jerry Garcia had gone into a coma the previous summer. The Dead’s lineup at the time consisted of Garcia, guitarist Bob Weir, bassist Phil Lesh, drummers Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann and keyboardist Brent Mydland.
The March 26 show begins with a rare “In The Midnight Hour” opener, and the second set begins with the classic pairing of “China Cat Sunflower” and “I Know You Rider.” The next night, the Dead opted for an “Alabama Getaway” opener and closed the second set with an emotional “Morning Dew.”
The shows are available for pre-order beginning at 1 p.m. ET today. Head to dead.net to purchase. Check out the full setlists from the featured shows below.

October 18, 2020 at 11:53 amHey Eddie, the crowd noise was mixed in live at the show my friend. Ultrasound’s Don Pearson, and the Dead’s sound engineer, Dan Healy made live mixes from ’87-’90 blending a pair of microphones setup next to the mixing desk with the 2 track SBD feed to add the PA acoustics as heard from the audience. This method balanced out a mix that would often be quite dry with too loud vocals and keyboards due to the fact that a pure SBD mix done is for the room at the show, not for making tapes for later. Go visit Archive.org and poke around those years and educate yourself before posting about a subject so well documented as Grateful Dead recordings. Peace!

October 16, 2020 at 3:32 pmCrowd noise unbearable and unnecessary
Just listened to a few tracks on SiriusXM, Dave’s usual preview special. This music is great and special as promised for the songs he presents however they went overboard with adding in fake crowd sounds since it came from a soundboard. Its overbearing, unnecessary, clearly unauthentic and nonstop. Its like listening to an old TV sitcom again once you’ve gotten used to no phony soundtrack. Please remove else I won’t buy it. You’ve been warned. Thank you.

I got home with my friend and we talked till 4 am about the level of show we just experienced. How could they walk back on stage again after that PEAK ?!!!

October 15, 2020 at 9:05 pmI suggest you check out Madison, Wi. 2-3-78. Best Scarlet-Fire ever plus a killer Other One into Wharf Rat. Loved it as a bootleg and then it was released as Dick’s Pick 18. Also, you got to check out Garcia Band 2-17-80 SUNY Oswego, N.Y. Jerry really throws down this particular night. You can find it on GDSets.com. Garcia Band is definitely worth checking out if really want to hear Jerry leaning into it. Jerry is a little more self indulgent So many killer jams it’s hard to know where to start!
