Sturgill Simpson has announced that he will release a bluegrass album on Friday, Oct. 16, titled Cuttin’ Grass Vol. 1 – The Butcher Shoppe Sessions. The album will contain 20 songs, all of which are reworked versions of cuts from Simpson’s discography.
“Welp,..was hoping to surprise everybody on Thursday but somebody somewhere (Germany) got all excited and just couldn’t hold their horses,” Simpson wrote in an Instagram post revealing the album.
The album, as its name suggests, was recorded at The Butcher Shoppe studio in Nashville, Tenn. Simpson was joined by Stuart Duncan (fiddle), Miles Miller (drums), Tim O’Brien (guitar), Mike Hub (bass), Scott Vestal and Mark Howard (banjo), and Sierra Hull (mandolin) for the recording.
In a livestream from Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium in June, Simpson performed a series of bluegrass versions of his songs.

Tryin' Too Hard
