In the wake of the August death of Justin Townes Earle, his father – country titan Steve Earle – will offer a reflective album covering his late son’s work.

“Steve Earle & the Dukes announced today that they will be recording an album of songs written by Justin Townes Earle with 100% of artist advances and royalties going to a trust for Justin’s daughter, Etta St. James Earle,” reads a statement by New West Records. “It is expected that the album will be recorded in October and released in January, 2021, around the time of what would have been Justin’s 39th birthday. More details to be announced shortly.”

And while his public statements on Justin’s passing have been limited, Earle wore one of his son’s official tshirts on a recent episode of his Guitar Town YouTube show.

In a 2017 interview with Relix he reflected on how his touring impacted his children, noting, “Justin’s getting ready to be a dad, and we’ve been talking about this a lot. He’s getting ready to find out. Maybe he’ll make a different choice than I did. I was never running from anything; I’m pretty domesticated.”
