After teasing a new record on the Grateful Dead’s ‘Shakedown Stream’ pre-show, Bruce Hornsby has announced his new album, Non-Secure Connection. It is due to be released Aug. 14.

In addition to the album announcement, Hornsby also shared the first single from the record, titled “My Resolve.” The song features James Mercer (The Shins, Broken Bells). Hornsby described “My Resolve” as “a Sisyphean tale of the creative life, sung with a fellow climber.”

“The new album’s chromaticism and dissonance quotient is exactly twice as high (three songs featuring that language compared to one and a half on the last record),” Hornsby said of Non-Secure Connection (via press release). “I feel like my music has never been a part of any trend that defined any era of music during my 34 years of doing this. I may be wrong, but that’s how it feels to me.”

While the album is mainly produced by Hornsby himself, it also features addition production by Justin Vernon, Brad Cook, Wayne Pooley and Tony Berg.
