Street band festival HONK NYC! have collaborated with Frank London (The Klezmatics) and Hajnal Pivnick and Dorian Wallace (both of Tenth Intervention) to compose a “symphonic fanfare” titled “For Our Courageous Workers.” The performance of the piece will take place this evening (Apr. 29).

The organizers are calling for New Yorkers (both musicians and not) to participate; those who want to join in can simply play their instruments out their windows or, if accessible, on their rooftops.

“Everyone is welcome to participate,” the Facebook event reads. “There are parts for all: musicians of any and every level — beginners, young musicians, amateurs, and professionals; on voices, strings, brass, winds, keyboards, drums — as well as all the people of the city making noise, singing, and banging on pots and pans.”

Local music organizations including Make Music New York, Kaufman Music Center, The Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, Yiddish New York, Arturo O’Farrill & the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra and many more have signed on to participate.
