Trey Anastasio Shares New Song, Pens Message on Struggling With Addiction
Trey Anastasio has shared another new song, titled “Are You There Colleen?” Along with the song, Anastasio shared a lengthy note regarding his experience with addiction.
“Lots of songs coming out. I hope they provide a bit of joy, or even distraction. The truth is, writing helps me. It feels like connective tissue with our community of friends,” Anastasio wrote.
“Or maybe this is just another addiction? Who knows? It sure as Hell beats ‘that other addiction,'” he continued. “Which makes me want to say this: For those out there suffering with addiction, You CAN get off drugs. Keep the faith. Life is joyous on the other side. This event could be your salvation if it lights a fire that leads to a life off drugs.”
“Help is there. Ask. Remember, you are a sick person trying to get well, NOT a bad person trying to get good,” he later wrote. “Part of the sickness is not knowing that you’re sick. Isolation is the main component of addiction and alcoholism. Zoom meetings are a good place to connect with a community. Hearing others talk can help. You’re not alone. 70,000 people a year die of overdoses in America. How many are sick, but didn’t overdose? A lot. How many are out searching, ignoring isolation rules right this second? A lot. How much money does addiction cost a week? A lot.”
“You’ll struggle. There’s no magic pill. You have to go thru it, not around. But you CAN get off drugs. Forever,” Anastasio concluded.

How is it trolling if he’s telling the truth? It is total bullshit for Trey to host monolith drug parties for decades and then tell everyone how great and important it is to be sober. Trey made a fortune off of enabling addiction. Now he’s a hero and an inspiration? Give me a break. Wake up. This pablum is an insult to every life and family he’s helped to destroy. If you’re inspired by a hypocrite, that’s your problem.
Dick, I thought you would at least be able to empathize with this song and message about addiction. After all, being an internet troll is a sad addiction as well.
Stop being mean to trey! Your the ones who encourage his nonstop horrible writting binges i blame phish fans for pretendimg he comes anywhere close to a robert hunter!
This song touched my soul. We lost my husband’s sister named Colleen a few years ago. His wonderful brother who loves Phish found this gem and sent it to us today. Thanks Trey ❤
