As Americans get increasingly concerned about the coronavirus – or COVID-19 – Miami Mayor Francis Suarez and Commissioner Joe Carollo have expressed serious concerns about the city’s Ultra Music Festival, scheduled for March 20.

According to the Miami Herald, Mayor Suarez, Commissioner Carollo and festival organizers had a closed-door meeting on Wednesday morning, followed by “a press conference where Carollo and Suarez called for the event’s postponement. After the meeting, Carollo and Suarez told reporters they had reached a resolution, but there would not be an official announcement until Friday morning.”

Ultra has been reportedly postponed up to a year, effectively canceling it for 2020.

The massive music festival hosted up to 170,000 people in 2019 at Miami’s Virginia Key, with major EDM headliners like Carl Cox, The Chainsmokers and Deadmau5.

2020 was set to include acts like David Guetta, Major Lazer, Above & Beyond and more.

According to the U.S. Center of Disease Control, coronavirus can be spread “between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet).”

As or press time, Florida has two confirmed cases of the virus, with additional suspected or presumed cases awaiting confirmation. According to state officials, multiple medical professionals have also been quarantined after being exposed to an infected individual.
