Widespread Panic celebrated their ninth Panic En La Playa on Friday night, offering two high-octane sets of covers and originals, as well as welcoming special guest Marcus King for a second set sit-in.

The band kicked things off right, ringing in Warren Zevon’s birthday with a cover of “Lawyers, Guns and Money.” From there, the crowd threw their drinks on “Chilly Water” and kept the party going through “Stop-Go” and Talking Heads favorite “Heaven.”

Later, a trio of “Tall Boy,” “Papa Legba” and “Junior” closed the band’s first half.

Set two highlights included an opening duo of “Rumble” and “One Arm Steve,” as well as the aforementioned King sit-in which stretched from the traditional blues number “One Kind Favor” through Neil Young’s “Mr. Soul.”

King then left the stage as Widespread Panic offered a final trio of “Thought Sausage,” “Radio Child” and the reliably rocking closer “Climb To Safety.”

A massive encore jam of Traffic’s “Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys” punctuated the evening, complete with a segue in and out of “Tie Your Shoes.”
