On Dec. 27 and 28, Gov’t Mule played two of their four New Year’s Eve shows, with Friday’s show taking place in Philadelphia at The Met and Saturday’s at the Palace Theater in Waterbury, Conn.

Philadelphia’s show began with a duo of “Traveling Tune” > “Thorazine Shuffle.” Later, guitarist/frontman Warren Haynes led the band through a rendition of “Rocking Horse.” To close the set, Mule invited Ron Holloway to join the band for “Devil Likes It Slow” and “32/20 Blues.”

The second frame began with “Grinnin’ In Your Face,” followed by “Wandering Child.” After a “Broke Down On The Brazos” > “Tributary Jam” segment, the band invited The Better Half singers (which are made up of the band members’ wives) for a rendition of “Million Miles From Yesterday.” The singers stayed on stage for “The Letter,” which also featured Holloway.

Later, the band played “Statesboro Blues” with help from John Ginty, Johnny Stachela & Berry Oakley Jr. (Jorgen Carlsson took a breather during the song). Holloway then returned to the stage to close the set with a segment of “Blind Man In The Dark” > “Trane” > “Blind Man In The Dark.”

For the encore, Mule treated fans to a cover of the Allman Brothers’ classic “Whipping Post,” which featured Duane Betts on guitar.

The following night’s show featured no guests until the encore; however, the first set featured a stunning sequence of “Game Face” > “Mountain Jam” > “Game Face,” followed by “Trane” > “St. Stephen Jam.” The second frame was highlighted by the opening song, a cover of the Allman Brothers’ “Dreams.”

The encore saw Danny Draher and Paul Ill take the stage, joining Mule (again sans Carlsson) for “Gonna Send You Back To Georgia.”

Gov’t Mule returns to the stage tonight at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. Check out the setlists from Dec. 27 and 28 below, via Mule.net.
