Building up to the release of their new LP Closer Than Together (which dropped today), The Avett Brothers celebrated their Thursday night gig in Wallingford, Conn. with the live debut of the mid-album track “We Americans.”

The song showcases the new album’s more political themes, as Seth Avett sings, “I am a son of Uncle Sam/ And I struggle to understand/ The good and evil/ But I’m doing the best I can/ In a place built on stolen land with stolen people.”
