Tuesday night in Hollywood, CA, ZZ Top’s Billy F Gibbons and Dusty Hill welcomed a capacity crowd to the famed Cinerama Dome for the world premiere of the group’s documentary, ZZ Top: That Little Ol’ Band From Texas.

Moments prior to the screening of the feature, Gibbons and Hill spoke to an audience of friends, colleagues, and guests. “I haven’t seen it,” said Gibbons, excited to view the finished cut. “But, we lived it,” countered Hill.

The film, directed by Sam Dunn (also in attendance) “tells the story of how three oddball teenage bluesmen—Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill and Frank Beard—became one of the biggest, most beloved bands on the planet, all while maintaining a surrealist mystique that continues to intrigue fans and entice onlookers a half century after the band’s inception.” As they prepare to embark on their 50^thAnniversary Tour, the ZZ Top doc looks back at the band’s origins up through the multi-platinum success of their 1983 album, Eliminator.

Gibbons, Hill, and Dunn spoke briefly following the showing, thanking fans for their support and praising the work of the film crew. Gibbons also offered encouraging news on Beard’s health, saying a recent reported bout with pneumonia would not prevent the drummer from missing any upcoming dates. Event screenings are set to kick off nationwide on Aug. 16^th, coinciding with the start of Top’s 50^th Anniversary Tour, launching in Ridgefield, WA.
