Kentucky’s Railbird Festival took over Keeneland race track in Lexington this past weekend for its inaugural gathering, and opening day on Saturday featured a set from Brandi Carlile, who also took time to help her friends in Old Crow Medicine Show close out their own set with a three-song sit in.
Carlile’s main-stage set featured some of her staple originals like “The Story” and “The Joke,” plus a raucous cover of Led Zeppelin’s version of “Babe, I’m Gonna Leave You” and a rendition of Joni Mitchell’s “A Case of You.”
For their later set, Old Crow welcomed out Carlile for their final trio of tunes, starting with their classic “Wagon Wheel” and continuing with a cover of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” and, finally, a closing run of the folk standard “Will the Circle Be Unbroken?” Carlile and OCMS have shared the stage multiple times in the past, including during a co-headlining tour in 2016.
Check out the two setlists below, along with fan-shot video of “Jolene,” “Circle” and Carlile’s Zeppelin cover.
CORRECTION (8/12): An earlier version of this story incorrectly attributed “Babe, I’m Gonna Leave You” to Led Zeppelin. The song was originally written by folk singer-songwriter Ann Bredon.

August 15, 2019 at 11:35 amJoe, I agree that it’s good to acknowledge the original songwriters, but did you listen to her performance? She unquestionably performed the Led Zeppelin arrangement of the tune. She was covering their version of the song not Anne Bredon’s version or any of the other folk versions.

August 12, 2019 at 3:36 pmBabe I’m Gonna Leave You is not a Led Zeppelin song. It’s a Anne Bredon song. Please use editorial oversight. This website has become a laughing stock of journalistic amateurism.
