moe. and Blues Traveler began their collective “All Roads Runaround” tour on Thursday night, offering three sets at the Long Island Community Hospital Amphitheater at Bald Hill in Farmingville, NY.

The format of the show began with a single set of Blues Traveler, followed by a collaborative set and a final stand-alone set of moe.

As expected Blues Traveler pulled material from throughout their 30+ year career, including cuts from their most recent LP, 2018’s Hurry Up and Hang Around.

Next, the moe./Blues Traveler collaboration was a dizzying display of covers and originals. The festivities began with two members of moe. (Al Schnier and Jim Loughlin) joining two members of Blues Traveler (Ben Wilson and John Popper) for a version of Blues Traveler’s “100 Years.” From there, they offered their first cover with a rocking take on Steely Dan’s “Reeling In The Years,” with Wilson remaining onstage and playing along with Blues Traveler’s Chan Kinchla and Tad Kinchla as well as moe.’s Rob Derhak, Chuck Garvey and Vinnie Amico. The revolving door of talent continued through moe. fan favorite “Happy Hour Hero” and the Rolling Stones’ “Dead Flowers.” Finally, the two-band set closed with Wilson, Chan Kinchla, Tad Kinchla, Garvey, Hill and Derhak playing The Who’s “Join Together.”

In a recent interview with Relix, Schnier emphasized how each band wants collaborative set to reflect real musicianship as opposed to an all-star mish-mash of music.

“It’s like putting on a mini-festival every day; we want to do something with a little more intent and quality control than just playing “Not Fade Away” for 45 minutes,” he said. “It’s fun to have 18 guitar players onstage, but, musically, is it something you are ever going to listen to again?… Everything is on the table, but we want to make sure there’s a reason for it and that we’re not just playing “Johnny B. Goode.”

To end the show, moe. offered fans a pairing of “LL3″> “The Road” and moved through tracks like “Screaming And Kicking,” “Threw It All Away” and “Crab Eyes,” before ending things with a nice “Akimbo”> “Timmy Tucker” segment. The encored with “Spaz Medicine.”
