This weekend, Umphrey’s McGee offered two of their three nights at Red Rocks, offering a debut of Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here classic “Have A Cigar” as well as Al Green’s “Take Me To The River.”

Following a support set from Arizona quartet Spafford, UM kicked things off on Friday with “Roctopus” and later surprised the crowd with the aforementioned “Have A Cigar” debut with Kanika Moore on guest vocals (Moore’s usual gig is in Doom Flamingo with UM bassist Ryan Stasik).

Friday’s second half closed with a rocking “Draconian,” before UM encored with an expansive “Nemo” jam, with an “In The Kitchen” sandwiched between.

For Saturday, UM went a little jammier, diving head-first into an “Unsung Hero”> “Andy’s Last Beer” to start the show. The first half was full of improv, but the party really took off when they welcomed the Turkuaz horns for “Comma Later” and additional vocalists Shira Elias and Sammi Garett for a version of The Beatles’ “With A Little Help From My Friends.” The latter tune was dedicated to mandolin player and Yonder Mountain co-founder Jeff Austin – Brendan Bayliss’ partner in 30db – who cancelled a slew of dates due to a “medical emergency” earlier in the day.

Later, the members of Turkuaz emerged again, with the horns jamming on “Example 1,” and Elias and Garett returning for UM’s debut of Talking Heads favorite/Al Green original “Take Me To The River.”

UM encored Saturday night solo with it’s not us cut “Remind Me.”

Umphrey’s McGee’s Red Rocks run will stretch through Sunday, June 24.
