At the historic Red Rocks Amphitheatre, moe. fans were treated to a special sit-in by Phish’s Mike Gordon on Saturday night, for a bass-laden cover of “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed.”

After jamming through the first set with “Timmy Tucker”> “Tubing The River Styx”> “The Pit”> “Dangerous Game” and pairing together “Jazz Cigarette” and “Water,” moe. closed the first half with the aforementioned Allman Brothers Band cover, going deep on the jam section as Gordon and Rob Derhak explored the groove side-by-side. (Gordon and his namesake band performed a set earlier in the day, as did White Denim, marking the first time Gordon’s solo project took the Red Rocks stage. Interestingly, the last time Gordon jammed “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed” with moe. was in 2003 at Las Vegas’ House of Blues with Dickey Betts himself.)

Set two was equally jammy, book-ended by “The Road” and setlist standby “Rebubla.”

moe. encored their Red Rocks gig with a fun-filled “Turning Japanese.”
