Max Creek are back, with a batch of 48th anniversary shows as well as a new album – their first since their 2000 concert LP Live at the Connecticut Expo Center.
The band – which started in 1971 – boasts the current lineup of guitarist Scott Murawski (also known for his work with Mike Gordon), keyboardist Mark Mercier, bassist John Rider and the drumming duo of Bill Carbone and Jamemurrell Stanley.
“It’s a stone that I’ve been pushing up a mountain since 2015, along [with] tons of help from the Telefunken crew, the elusive Blue Clyde, and several others.” Carbone wrote on Facebook referring to the long-awaited LP, “I gave up on several occasions but my inner pain-in-the-ass finally prevailed.”
Carbone goes on to say the “double disc” will drop at Max Creek’s Connecticut shows at Telefunken Soundstage on Feb. 22 and 23.

February 6, 2019 at 8:38 amYou got that right, CHRIS.
Although I haven’t seen these guys play live in about 35 years, they are still plugging away, always an ever present fixture around New England (kind of like Death and Taxes, you can always count on Creek!).
I remember I used to see them a lot at the original Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel (early 1980’s) in Providence, RI, back when they played more Grateful Dead than their own material. I loved their album ‘Rainbow’ which I purchased at a show, although I wish I had held onto it because it’s pretty rare and hard to find these days.
Max Creek was one of the original Grateful Dead tribute bands IMHO (now there are dozens and dozens, the market is so over saturated these days with only a handful being exceptionally good like JRAD).
They still play quite a few shows each year in Providence (now usually at The Met) so they must be still doing something right, and maybe it’s time I catch them again because I am sure they have only gotten better since I last saw ’em.
Back in the early 1980’s you’d run into these guys at numerous haunts and shows around New England as if they were family. I remember John Rider and a friend sitting behind me at a GD show in Hartford in 1984, or them being at a club catching a local show (not to mention the surprise of seeing Scott sit in with Phish at Great Woods in the late 1990’s).
Local hero’s who’ve done good, no doubt about it. Congrats on the longevity guys.
The only question I have is, “How come you’re playing 48th Anniversary shows? Do you not think you’ll make it to 50”?
Onward and Upward!!
Chris
