After an eventful Friday and Saturday, the Disco Biscuits rounded out their three-night run at The Capitol Theatre on Saturday night with a tribute to the Grateful Dead.

The band opened their Saturday show with the classic GD trilogy of “Help on the Way”> “Slipknot!”> “Franklin’s Tower.” Guitarist Jon “The Barber” Gutwillig even donned a tie-dye shirt for the show, and – interestingly – played a Languedoc guitar. (The instrument seemed to nod to another famed jamband, who have their own history at the venue.) To accompany the three-part jam, Grateful Dead imagery was also projected on the venue’s famous dome ceiling.

“Peter Shapiro is like a modern day what’s his name,” bassist Marc Brownstein wrote, referring to The Cap’s owner via Twitter, “and when you are in Jerry’s House, you play some shit…”

From there, the band segued into their own “Spraypaint Victory” and finally landed on “Sound 1.” The Disco Biscuits closed their first half with a jam on “Shem-Rah Boo”> “Cyclone,” and improvised extensively before returning to “Spraypaint Victory.”

Set two kicked off with the band’s first “Voices Insane” of 2019, which included a segue in and out of an inverted “Shelby Rose.” Another massive jam followed as the Biscuits dove into an exploratory “Little Shimmy in a Conga Line” that contained both “Humuhumunukunukuapua’a” and “Miracles.”

The band encored their final show at The Cap with the fan favorite “Helicopters.”
